We'll miss you, Nanda

Fernanda and her husband

My friend, Nanda, passed away yesterday of cancer.  She was diagnosed with breast cancer in Kuwait in February 2009, and thought she had it beat at one point, until the discovery that it had spread to her brain.  She was a lovely lovely person, full of life and energy.  She was one of the few people I know who never had a bad word about anyone; always found (and brought out) the good in others.  She was an angel on Earth and now she's moved Home.  She died in her home country, Brazil yesterday afternoon.

Nanda had a message to me and other females I know:  Get regular mammograms and breast exams!

I will miss your smile,  your laughter, and your grace, girl.  I will never forget you.  You brightened my world and I am a better person for knowing you.

You are around here somewhere and dont you play games with me! Come back I miss you, I'll take you to Sakura, I'll complete all my assignments and write better proposals and contracts! Just come back will you... I can hear you say "Yes my darling"!
For all of you who have didnt have the opportunity to meet her or know her - you missed a darn good chance to know a fantastically caring, kind to the core, ever smiling and full of life person.

I used to call her Mom, because of the motherly qualities she exhumed.
Today whatever I am its because of you. I love you so much and I will carry forward your legacy.

In debt I shall always remain,
r....!

My condolences to you and to her family. My cousin (who was only 30) also recently died from breast cancer that had spread. Her struggle has made my entire family much more viligent about self breast exams and we all proudly wear the 'Save the TA-TAs' t-shirts in her honor. It is so vitally important to check, even at a younger age. I found a lump from self exam and had it removed, thank god it was benign. This type of cancer takes so many beautiful women away from this world...we need to find a cure.
