KUWAIT CITY, March 9: A blonde semi-nude girl was seen on a motorbike with a young man in Salmiya area. The incident resulted in traffic jam, as a group of young motorists tried to follow them. Acting on information, a team of security operatives went to the location to maintain order, but the motor rider with his partner and their followers managed to escape before their arrival.  According to security sources, there’s no law in the country banning girls from riding motorbikes but there are rules in that regard, which include dress code, in order to protect the riders and other road users. They pointed to a team of traffic men specialized in checking motor riders that violate traffic regulations.

DG thoughts:

WHEN did bare arms become semi-nude?  I've seen less clothes on people in restaurants lately.
Why the H should there be a law in the country banning girls from riding motorbikes???
Rules in that regard?  Oh, you mean like guys who wear shorts and flip flops on motorcycles?
Why do young motorists feel that they should follow them?!  What will they gain?  Why not publish photos of the young motorists following them?
And last but not least, no homo, but nice butt, girlfraynd!  You go, girl!

  1. Unfortunately there are many guys bored and frustrated enough to think that following some girl is on the road is a fun thing to do. It is the kuwaiti version of the american "cat-calling" , and as such it is much more common than this story leads one to believe. Generally speaking it is annoying but harmless.
Fortunately, the security forces can be alerted whenever this gets out of hand, and i think that is the proper way of explaining this - as an attempt to protect the riders being followed. Not as an attempt to prosecute them. As is mentioned in the citation you posted, there are no bans on women riding motorcycles. And as is clearly obvious in today's kuwaiti society, issues with dress-code are more and more relaxed.
So, there is no need to look at things from a perspective that vilifies the police, laws, and society at large.

  2. She's wearing her helmet. Looks to me as if she's following safety laws -- especially considering the number of men I've seen riding motorcycles without a helmet.

Totally agree; the men following them should be the ones in trouble. And definitely nice butt!

  3. i think they're saying that she's semi nude, because of the tightness of the clothes that she's wearing.

  4. I actually know the first girl to get a motorcycle license here in Kuwait. She took her kuwait drivers license, motor cycle licence from her country, passport and her motorcycle license application. Showed it to the clerk. Badda bing it was done. She did wear a big leather jacket (that we bought her in Denver) and a helmet. She sort of worried about being noticed but I dont think she ever had any trouble.
