Expat Moms in Kuwait

I get asked a lot of mom/children related questions here and I should be the last person to ask or to give advice.... but I try to help.  My friend, Emily, recommended this forum and I thought I would pass it along.

  2. What seems to be the overriding opinion of older moms there? Im 4 months along at 43 with surprise baby number one. I am transitioning from part time transplant to full time...and a bit nervous..

I very much enjoy your blog. Thank you for your information

  3. Dear Michelle, I'm not in the mom/kid world, so I don't know how to answer your question. I can tell you that there are a lot of older Kuwaiti moms because Kuwaitis like large families and age isn't a thang to many people. But you should ask some other moms out there (on expat forums and maybe this mom's group) how they feel. I'm not planning to have my first until I'm 60, so ask me then! :) LOL.

If you are planning to have your baby here, the Royal Hyatt Hospital is outstanding. It is affiliated with Banyan Tree spas and they offer all kinds of pampering treatments (before and after) as well as delivery packages (like your choice of suites and services).

Thanks for the compliments! If you have any questions about your transition here, just holla.

  6. Dear moms

I need your help with guidance, tips and ideas on how to help my daughter go through the KG admission test. I don’t want to make it long but I need to give you a brief idea about the issue. She’s 3 and a half years old now, and an only child. She goes to nursery and is doing just great. The issue is that when we tried to get her into pre-K last year, she did not cooperate with the new school’s teacher. She cried a lot and refused to stay alone in the room with her. My child is very smart and is doing great (according to her nursery teacher’s objective opinion, and her score card attests to her amazing development on more than one level), however, she takes her time when it comes to new environments involving people and situations that are strange or new to her. What I learned from my readings is that I can help her make progress in reaching out to people easily by enrolling her in activities and playgroups. What do you think will work best in her situation? Any idea how I can get in touch with other moms or any playgroups? What activities will boost her self-confidence?

    Thanks a lot in advance

  7. Just a little side note: I'm not a mom. I don't do mom things. I don't know about schools or doctors or play groups or activities. I have a wicked sense of humor, and if anything, I would be tempted to prank you - which I know is just wrong, wrong, wrong. "It would be different if you had your own kids, Desert Girl." and that's probably true. But I don't so I get to make fun of the people I really don't understand: Parents. How do you people do it? I mean, I can have a full staff of employees and they are less responsibility than those little humans that need your attention all the time. And shuffling them to schools. And figuring out schools. And having to deal with teachers and other parents. Oh.My.God. Just thinking about it is making my palms sweat.

So my advice to moms who need information is - get onto Facebook on the Expat Mums in Kuwait group. They are very helpful - as is the British Ladies Society (and maybe the American Women's League, but I haven't attended one of their meetings in about 10 years so I don't know).

Also find a good pediatrician. Ask them for assistance.

Sorry I can't be of more help. Dogs, dating, complaining, contracting - those are my thangs.

Thanks for stopping by and it is so nice to hear from you! Just a few words on commenting: Through this blog, I won’t tolerate intolerance, hatred, finger-pointing or personal vendettas. If I even get those types of comments, I will most likely delete them because I believe it defeats the purpose of positive efforts and energy. Stop the hate.
