Yes people - they have it. I'm making machboos camel for my friends this week. Bedouin Bunny says, "Why the hell would anyone want to eat camel meat? It's so tuff." (He doesn't like dhub or gerbil shawwi either!) Ok, like I said, I will try anything - once. I'll let y'alls know how it comes out.

Is it all packaged up, or do you ask the butcher for specific cuts? Some parts more tender than the others? Soak in yoghurt before cooking?
ReplyDeleteHi Intlxpatr. No, it isn't packaged - it is at the butcher counter. I've heard the meat from the hump is the most tender. The butcher didn't have very much of the meat (maybe there was more in the back?). I was so excited to see it that I just told him to wrap up a kilo.

ReplyDeleteLLOOLLL the Cat Schwermas in Jahra. There was an article in the Kuwait Times specifically saying (after reporting on the cat meat shwermas) that there were RUMORS of cat meat, but they weren't true.

3ad out of all red-meats, the camel's is the best for you,health wise, it has no chloestrol and in fact it has other nutruitional facts too -- you could googley:)
ReplyDeleteOk y'alls, I cooked the camel. It was very fresh and tasted great. I cooked it the same way you would cook regular lamb machboos. I did a little experiment and cooked lamb machboos side-by-side with another pot of camel machboos. The camel had less fat. To me, it tasted like a cross between beef and lamb; kind of like wagu beef in leanness. I would definately recommend it and I'll buy it from Lulu again.
ReplyDeleteBefore I cooked it, I asked a bedouin guy in my office how I should do it. He gave me a look that I'll never forget and said, "(Desert Girl), I'm civilized! Do you think I KNOW how to cook camel?" He walked away and I was still laughing 10 minutes later.
