Why Some People Quit Blogging

None of us have to agree with everything written in other people’s blogs. The beauty of blogging is that there is a variety of information/perspectives out here and you can pick and choose what you want to read. If we don’t like what other people have to say, in a few keystrokes, we can navigate somewhere else and not go back there again (there are a few blogs that really do piss me off, so I don't read them). It is just like being in other people’s company; if you meet someone that you don’t like or share the same things in common or just dislike their opinions, you can move on and not associate with that person again.

Like politics or religion or whatever you don’t agree with – why stop to argue about something that you are likely not to win or change? Why place negative energy into something that you might as well just avoid? Agree to disagree and that’s it.

I’ve been receiving a lot of negative comments – mostly of the anonymous variety – from people who don’t share my opinions in the blog. For those people who do share my opinions – or at least stop in to read what I have to say and enjoy it: Let me just say that a few negative comments aren’t going to stop me from blogging. Phuck that.

I receive a lot of mail (with actual return addresses and even phone numbers) from people who have read this blog; not just in Kuwait but in other countries around the world. I have made a lot of friends – some of whom I socialize with in the “real world”. I love doing this. I have had years of happiness, word therapy and new friends, perspectives and insights.

What I am saying to those who chose to send in negativity is this: If you don’t like what I have to say, you have the CHOICE to stop reading; or perhaps even create your own blog and state your own opinions. (I’m not advocating that you start a blog to write negative comments directed solely at ME – by any means.) What you will find here are my opinions; not yours. I’m not planning to change, so you won’t win your argument; and you certainly will ever win with insults. Move it along - hopefully with a little dignity and self-respect.

I’m not willing to post comments that I’m not comfortable with. As the Editor in Chief of my own blog – I get to choose. If someone chooses to"advise" someone else, it doesn't mean that the person must take the advice. I have a choice. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. And most definately - insults just aren’t going to make it in. If ANYONE wants to say something to me directly, you are more than welcome 24/7, 365 days a year to contact me at amerab@gmail.com. If you are considerate enough to leave a return address, I’ll even be happy to reply. However, one sided diatribes go directly to my recycle bin.

This is the first (since 2004) and last post that I will ever make on the subject. Bada bing.

Hugs and kisses,
Desert Girl

There are some sad little individuals out there who unfortunately can't wait to jump in and attempt to grump and spoil things for others. Ignore them cos they are full of CR%@p!
    Keep on Blogging DG!

  3. I rarely comment on your blog entries, but I almost always read them. You are unique, and you have a hilarious perspective on life. Your blog is out there!

As different as we may seem, I am would miss you if you quit blogging. I totally agree with your view that your blog is to express YOUR opinions, and you have the right to edit or censor any comments.

    Wooo Hooooo Desert Girl.

  6. Do they have a "spam" file for blogs...that way repeat offenders can go directly to the trash and you don't even need to look at them? Now THERE's an idea!

  9. I received a lot of very nice comments and several e-mails in response to this post. This time around, I didn’t receive anything insulting, vulgar, or negative AT ALL. Thank you all so much for re-charging my battery with positive energy! Particular responses to comments are below.

Pinky – Is that like Pinky Tuscadero from “Happy Days” who was the Fonz’s girlfriend? She was my slutty idol! Ha haaaa. I like your blog. You are quirky like me and that is a good thing. It is so cool that my blog inspired you. Hope it hasn’t completely corrupted you at the same time (I am older and more cynical)! What is your e-mail address? I have been trying to find someone to show me how to add links to other blogs through mine (as I am retarded and can’t figure it out). You go, girl!

Error – Because they get caught by their bosses either blogging or commenting to blogs during working hours, honey.

Intlxpatr - Wooo Hooooo you too! “Unique” as in English or Arabic (evil snicker)? See how that perspective kicks in? I read your very nice, kind comment and I immediately take note of the one word that I can turn into something dirty. LOL! Thank you very much and I am glad that you read and comment. I don’t mind people disagreeing. Au contraire – we are all different. Seeing the same picture from someone elses perspective gives you a whole new meaning. But we can disagree in positive ways – and those are the types of comments that I am happy to publish.

Thank you, Fatoooom. I appreciate that.

Joel – You see - this is how it starts. Someone comments, and then I go to visit their blog (Like your “My Journal”) and I like it, and I comment… and so on and so on. Then, I see you on the street and run over to say hi and you think I’m a stalker and call the police…. BTW - The picture of that moth on your blog is amazing. Was it taken in Kuwait? I’ve never seen anything like that. It almost looks like jewelry.

Stinni – I don’t even have to comment to your comment because, as we already know, I am President of the Official Stinni Fan Club (with chapters in Kuwait, The Cape, and Virginia). YOU were my inspiration to start my blog years ago and you continue to crack me up whenever I visit yours. Stinni is an example of how you can correspond with someone locally (phone, e-mail, etc.) and then much later – meet them by chance (say, in Ikea for example) and know that you will be friends forevah.

Paradise Found – I LOVE that idea. Have you written to the blog guys (whoever they are)? That is the best idea ever. So…. When are you going to start posting? When I get help from Pinky and learn how to set links to other blogs – yours is on there! I have loved your e-mails and I think you should just go for it and start posting immediately. We have a lot of divers in Kuwait and I am sure they would love to hear about life in the Florida keys and your diving experience (and just life in general there for that matter).

  10. Rain – I commented to the comments before you commented, so here is my comment to your comment. Get it?

Well, what would life be without a little spice? This week, it got spicy. I do think that if I had a way to reply to the “gutless non return email providing criticisers”, as you so eloquently mentioned, I would have felt better through venting. I think I have actually found a much better, more positive way to do it – and have obviously made new friends because of it. God has a reason for everything and as one of my favorite quotes states, “Maybe it didn’t happen TO you, but FOR you”. I’ve taken people’s kindnesses (as above) as gifts.

  11. The picture of moth was taken in my hometown! Moths don't breed in Kuwait I guess!

Thanks for stopping by and it is so nice to hear from you! Just a few words on commenting: Through this blog, I won’t tolerate intolerance, hatred, finger-pointing or personal vendettas. If I even get those types of comments, I will most likely delete them because I believe it defeats the purpose of positive efforts and energy. Stop the hate.
